What IS Beer and Hymns?
Beer and Hymns was inspired by Irish and English pubs where singing happens frequently and spontaneously, and this often includes the singing of hymns. A festival in North Carolina called the Wild Goose Festival introduced Beer and Hymns in the United States and now there are Beer and Hymns communities all over the country. And it is as simple and wonderful as it sounds.

Is it like going to church, only with beer?
It’s purely singing and fellowship. With beer. Nothing more.
What happens at a Beer and Hymns event?
Some people drink beer and everyone sings hymns. The music is provided by live musicians. If you are you a musician or a vocalist interested in volunteering, check out our Songbook page for all the details.
What is expected of the participants?
The drinking is optional but the singing is mandatory. We ask that you drink responsibly and we encourage you to sing recklessly and with abandon. Beyond that, we suggest that you make some friends and have some fun.
Who is invited?
Quite literally everyone. You don’t have to be a beer drinker and you don’t have to be a believer of any kind to participate.
Do I have to know the words to the hymns?
Nope. We pass out songbooks so you will always know the words. If we introduce a song that few people know, we will teach it so that everyone can sing. It’s not a performance. It’s community participation.
Check out our Songbook page, we have a suggestion box we would love for you to tell us about your favorite hymn and we’ll do our best to include it!
Do I have to have a good singing voice?
Nope. Just show up and take a seat and open your mouth and sing. Your voice is fine and will contribute to our joyful noise.
Is there a cost?
Nope. You will support the venue by purchasing drinks and food. We might put out a fishbowl for donations for the musicians.
